Nigeria-born American defender, Ayọ Oke, has made history following a landmark transfer to Denver Summit FC, becoming the most expensive incoming American player in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Denver Summit FC have reached an agreement with Mexican giants Pachuca to sign the highly-rated defender from the Liga MX Femenil. The record-setting transfer fee marks a major milestone in women’s professional football in the United States and underscores the growing global value of top female talents.
Ayọ Oke, celebrated for her defensive intelligence, strength, and calmness on the ball, rose to prominence during her impressive spell with Pachuca. Her consistent performances attracted interest from clubs across North America and Europe, but Denver Summit FC ultimately won the race for her signature in what is being described as a market-defining deal.
The signing sends a strong signal of ambition from Denver Summit FC, one of the newest entrants into the NWSL as the league continues its expansion. The club is clearly positioning itself as a serious contender, ready to invest in elite talent to compete at the highest level both on and off the pitch.
Oke’s arrival is expected to significantly strengthen Denver’s defensive unit ahead of the club’s debut NWSL season. Official details regarding her resumption date and match eligibility are expected to be announced in due course.
Reacting to the historic achievement, Barrister Abayomi Oke, proud uncle to the football star and former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Òyó State, praised Ayọ’s discipline and growth, attributing her success largely to the guidance and encouragement of her parents, Ronke and Kolade Oke.
“Every parent should identify the talents in their children and guide them towards a blossoming future, so they can be positively useful to themselves, their community, and the country at large,” Barrister Oke said.
Ayọ Oke’s record-breaking transfer stands as a source of pride for Nigeria and an inspiration to young footballers across the country, reaffirming that with discipline, support, and hard work, global success is attainable.
