Federal and state lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have declared support for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, in a move widely seen as a dramatic political realignment.
The lawmakers also endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in 2026, noting that he is expected to contest under the Accord Party, further deepening the shifting alliances within the state’s political landscape.
The dual endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo over the weekend. The caucus also called on President Tinubu to intervene decisively in the lingering local government crisis in Osun State.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Deputy Minority Leader of the National Assembly, Senator Lere Oyewumi, commended Governor Adeleke for what he described as remarkable achievements in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, healthcare delivery, education reforms, and the preservation of democratic stability in the state.
“After reviewing the governor’s performance, we unanimously endorse and give him our full support for a second term, in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress in Osun State,” Oyewumi declared.
The lawmakers further passed a vote of confidence in the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, warning individuals allegedly parading themselves as party executives to desist immediately.
On the festering local government impasse, the caucus urged President Tinubu to direct what they termed “illegal occupants” of council secretariats to vacate their positions in order to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Responding to questions from journalists, Senator Oyewumi insisted that the party’s position was clear and deliberate. “It is the party’s stance to back President Tinubu in 2027 and also support Governor Adeleke in 2026,” he stated.
Those present at the meeting included Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, Deputy Speaker Akinyode Oyewusi, and other federal and state legislators, signaling what observers describe as a major political statement ahead of the next election cycle.
