President Hails Election of Mark Carney as Canada’s Prime Minister
President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Mark Joseph Carney on his election as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister, following the Liberal Party’s victory in the recent parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued Tuesday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Carney’s win as timely, highlighting the importance of experienced and steady leadership for Canada during this critical period.
Mr. Carney, a globally respected economist, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008–2013) and the Bank of England (2013–2020). President Tinubu noted that Carney’s distinguished record in global financial leadership positions him well to navigate Canada through future challenges.
Expressing optimism for stronger bilateral ties, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Canada—particularly in the areas of education, climate change, and migration.
He also expressed a desire to build a forward-looking partnership with Prime Minister Carney’s administration, building on the foundation of goodwill established during former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tenure.
