JUST IN: Kwankwaso Quits Gov. Yusuf’s Cabinet, Sparks Fresh Tension in Kano Power Bloc
Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kano State and son of political heavyweight Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s cabinet in a move already stirring fresh political calculations in the state.
Although Kwankwaso cited personal reasons and expressed gratitude to the governor, his sudden exit is widely viewed as more than a routine resignation, coming amid deepening political realignments and quiet tension within Kano’s ruling structure.
Observers say the resignation raises questions about internal cohesion within the Yusuf administration and signals a possible repositioning ahead of looming political battles in the state. The move has also reignited speculation about the future direction of the Kwankwasiyya political family and its relationship with the current government.
Kwankwaso’s departure leaves a notable vacuum in the cabinet and adds another layer of uncertainty at a time when Kano politics is witnessing defections, shifting alliances, and intensified struggle for control of the state’s political machinery.
As the dust settles, attention is now focused on whether this resignation is a prelude to a broader political fallout or a calculated step in an unfolding power play that could redefine Kano’s political landscape.
