For three decades, the annual Laylatul Qadr programme organized in collaboration with the Islamic Brotherhood of Nigeria (ISBON) has stood as a beacon of spiritual awakening and community development in Ogbomoso.
What began in 1996 as a modest night of devotion has grown into a landmark Islamic gathering, drawing clerics, scholars, dignitaries and worshippers from across Nigeria. The initiative, personally sponsored by Alhaji Moonsuru Ejide under the auspices of the Ejide Islamic Foundation, has remained uninterrupted for 30 years — a rare testament to consistency, dedication and faith-driven philanthropy.
Over time, Alhaji Ejide’s Kuye residence in Ogbomoso has evolved into the spiritual nerve centre of ISBON during Ramadan. Particularly on the 27th night — widely observed as Laylatul Qadr — the residence becomes a hub of intense worship, reflection and fellowship, with many faithful describing the atmosphere as uniquely sacred within the community.
A defining feature of the annual programme is the presence of distinguished Islamic clerics who deliver soul-stirring lectures and sermons. Their messages typically focus on the spiritual significance of Laylatul Qadr, moral discipline, youth development, ethical leadership and the role of Muslims in nation-building. Beyond religious instruction, the platform has become a space for intellectual engagement and moral recalibration.
Importantly, the programme extends beyond spiritual exercises. Each year, empowerment initiatives form part of the event, with support provided to widows, students and vulnerable families. Distribution of food items, Ramadan packages and financial assistance underscores the Foundation’s commitment to aligning worship with compassion.
As the 30th anniversary is celebrated, stakeholders note that the ISBON Laylatul Qadr programme has not only deepened faith but has also strengthened communal bonds and expanded humanitarian outreach in Ogbomoso and beyond.
Thirty years on, the gathering remains more than a night of prayer. It is a legacy of sustained devotion, scholarship and service — a living tradition that continues to illuminate lives and inspire generations.
