The Military has confirmed that some of its officers plotted to overthrow President Bola Tinubu. Reports emerged in October 2025 that officers, ranging from Captain to Brigadier-General, were arrested by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for allegedly attempting to stage a coup.
On Monday, the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Samaila Uba, stated that the investigation into the officers has concluded, and the findings have been submitted to the “appropriate superior authority.” Those found with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before a military judicial panel under the Armed Forces Act and other regulations.
Uba emphasized that the process was conducted according to established military procedures and aims to uphold discipline, fairness, and accountability within the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). He reiterated that measures being taken are disciplinary and part of institutional mechanisms to preserve operational effectiveness.
The AFN also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.
