The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has condemned allegations linking his party to the alleged destruction of campaign billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in parts of Ibadan, accusing the opposition party and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of falsehood and blackmail.
The APM Governorship Campaign Council, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Director of Communication and Spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, dissociated Adekanmbi and the party from the alleged destruction, insisting that they should not be linked to any act of violence involving the APC or its members.
The council accused the APC of repeatedly making unsubstantiated allegations against Adekanmbi and the APM in what it described as an attempt to gain public sympathy and support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
It described Adekanmbi as a man of peace who had never been associated with activities involving the destruction of other people’s property, warning the APC and its supporters against linking him or the APM to violence without evidence.
The statement also recalled an earlier allegation by the APC that some of its leaders were attacked by APM members during the party’s engagements, describing the claim as another attempt to implicate the opposition party in the APC’s internal crisis.
The council further criticised the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation over its recent claim of a diphtheria outbreak in Oyo State, accusing the APC of resorting to allegations rather than presenting concrete programmes and policies to convince the electorate.
It maintained that the allegations would not deter the APM from pursuing its political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the people of Oyo State were familiar with the activities of the various political parties and would make informed decisions at the polls.
The APM council attributed the prevailing peaceful coexistence in the state to the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde over the past seven years, arguing that residents would not want a return to what it described as a dark era.
However, the council called on security agencies in Oyo State to investigate the alleged destruction of the APC billboards, establish the authenticity of the claim and identify those responsible for the incident.
It also urged APM members to remain peaceful and continue their political activities without fear, expressing confidence in the ability of security agencies to protect lives and property.
The statement was signed by Oladoyinbo, Director of Communication and Spokesperson of the Oyo State APM Governorship Campaign Council, on October 14, 2026.
